KTM 1290 Super Duke R, 2020-2023
Third edition

A major evolution
With a completely redesigned engine, chassis, and electrical system

The liquid-cooled 75-degree V-twin DOHC 4-valve 1301cc engine is based on the previous model, but the use of titanium valves, forged pistons, top injectors and a ram air system resulted in a maximum output of 180ps, 6ps more than the previous model.
Max power 178bhp

The transmission and crankcase were also improved, and the engine itself was made lighter.

Engine is now a stressed member of frame

The frame has also been redesigned, with the 1290 Adventure's tubular steel trellis frame replaced by a tubular steel space frame that uses the engine as part of the rigid members, further increasing rigidity and reducing weight.

New triple clamps and a new linked rear shock have been added, while the swingarm has been lengthened and the pivot position changed to optimize the motorcycle's dimensions.
The WP APEX front and rear suspensions have also been upgraded to allow manual preload adjustment without the use of tools.

The electronic control system has been further improved with four new riding modes (Rain, Street, Sport and Track)
A new 5” TFT display and a stylish, functional interface.
Electronic controls have also been upgraded, including cornering ABS with supermoto mode, MTC (Traffic Control), MSR (Motor Slip Control) and cruise control.

Smaller 16L fuel tank, improved fuel economy.
LED headlight. Brembo Stylema brakes

The new Super Duke R has an eye-catching new front mask with a center duct in the middle of the split LED headlights. The new Super Duke R has a low, forward-leaning body style, which is a departure from the slightly stooped, motard-like image of previous models.
It looks much smarter and more refined than the muscular, massive design of the past.
Handling has also changed dramatically. According to KTM, the chassis stiffness has been tripled, but the actual ride feels softer. While the previous model had the image of a large body swinging around, the new model is more agile, yet feels secure and has a natural ride.
The clue seems to be in the all-new frame construction. The previous generation used a 1290 Adventure-style tubular steel trellis frame. The new model has an integrated structure with the engine as a rigid member of the tubular steel frame, making it simple and compact to look at. The engine mounting position is higher than the previous model, and the center of gravity is closer to the roll axis

KTM 1290 Super Duke R, 2017-2019
Second edition

“The Beast” was chiselled and tweaked in 2017 with slightly more power, suspension and styling updates.

But its new electronics took centre stage with more refined rider aids and a new Track riding mode, which lets you choose differing levels of throttle response and allows you to turn anti-wheelie off with the traction control still active.
Total of four ride modes (Rain, Street, Sport, Track (optional)),

KTM have given its 1301cc V-twin motor the Euro 4 treatment for 2017, so it’s quieter and emits 10% less CO2.
The revised motor makes a claimed 177bhp, up 4bhp over the previous model, thanks to a new crank, cylinder head, titanium inlet valves, a higher compression ratio (13.6:1) and 10mm shorter inlet trumpets, which let the 1301cc V-twin rev an extra 500rpm.

Revised WP suspension (stiffer spring rates than it’s predecessor), new internal damping settings and heavier fork springs, up from 95 to 100N/mm. On the road it offers a plusher ride and on track there’s lots of more control, agility and feeling through the tyres.
It now comes with Metzeler M7 Sportec RR sports rubber as standard.
The riding position is more aggressive, but still comfy, thanks to new bars that are 20mm wider, 5mm lower and 18.5mm further forward.

New Digital 4" TFT display, LED headlight, Brembo M50 Brakes
You now get keyless ignition and cruise control in standard trim, traction and wheelie control and ABS

Pay extra and you can also specify the extra Track riding mode, a quickshifter, autoblipper, heated grips and any number of sexy KTM Power Parts accessories.

KTM 1290 Super Duke R, 2014-2016
First edition

The KTM 1290 Super Duke R is a 1301cc 75° V-twin engine, naked bike from the Austrian manufacturer KTM
A massive leap forward over the old 990 Super Duke, whtich it replaces

Known as "The Beast" to its fans around the world

This new 1.3 litre KTM has arm-ripping power and is the most powerful naked bike on the market at its release.
Compression ratio of 13.2:1, produces maximum of 173bhp
Much more forgiving than you’d expect for such a ‘beast’. It’s actually relatively light and easy to manage on the road. On track, the fully adjustable WP suspension can be easily tweaked transforming the naked bike into a sports bike.

Standard analog/digital gauge cluster, 18 litre fuel tank.
Halogen headlight. Brembo M50 brakes, WP48 rebound and compression fully adjustable suspension

ABS is standard (and can be switched off) and there’s a ‘Supermoto’ mode which allows you to lock the rear. Traction control is also standard as are the three riders modes (Rain, Street, Sport) which effect the power and traction control intervention.

The 2014–2016 models suspension was considered to be too soft but the 2017 update addressed this with stiffer springs

2016: A Sport Tourer version of the bike was released, the "KTM 1290 Super Duke GT"
A more upright seating position through the use of a different chassis, added windscreen, larger 23 liter fuel tank and fairings and removable and lockable hard Pannier bags on the back
This Sport Tourer version was upgraded in mid 2019
